50-year-old guilty – 39 people suffocated in trucks: 12 years in prison

After the suffocation of 39 Vietnamese in a truck on the way to England in October 2019, a smuggler (50) was sentenced to twelve years and seven months in prison.

The Romanian had pleaded guilty to manslaughter and complicity in illegal entry in a London court. The case made headlines worldwide in 2019.

The youngest victim was only 15 years old
The man fled to Romania, but was arrested and extradited last year. According to the indictment, he was the “right-hand man” of the leader of the smuggling ring, a Romanian. The dead were discovered in October 2019 in the airtight trailer of a combination lorry in Essex, east of London. The youngest victim was 15 years old.

More convictions in Belgium
From the pendant, people sent heartbreaking messages to their relatives. The truck was brought from Belgium to England by ferry. People paid £13,000 each for the crossing. Four men were sentenced last year to prison terms ranging from 13 to 27 years in connection with the case. There were other convictions in Belgium.
