42-year-old injured – knife attacker previously fled from police building

Date:

Police are releasing new details about the man who stabbed a homeowner in Dornbirn for no apparent reason on Wednesday. Just hours before the crime, the 25-year-old was stopped by immigration police and fled through a window.

The 25-year-old suspect was arrested by Dornbirn immigration police early on Wednesday morning, police said on Friday. The man is said to have behaved calmly and unobtrusively.

In the course of official actions, more and more indications emerged that the man was a Ukrainian who fell under the provisions of the Displaced Persons Regulation and therefore had a right of residence in Austria.

Escape through a window
While the final clarifications with the responsible authorities were underway, the Ukrainian suddenly fled through a window. An immediately initiated search was initially unsuccessful. The man was initially arrested because there was an administrative violation.

Knife attack after begging
At 1 p.m., the 25-year-old rang the doorbell of a 42-year-old from Dornbirn and, as reported, begged for clothes. The homeowner let the man in, who then grabbed a knife and attacked the 42-year-old with it. After a scuffle, the homeowner managed to escape, after which the Ukrainian also left the crime scene.

The man was searched for again, but this time with success. The Ukrainian was arrested a kilometer away from the house. He is in Feldkirch prison. No information is available on the severity of the victim’s injuries. In any case, he is being investigated for attempted murder.
