The Austrian actor Florian Teichtmeister is said not only to have had tens of thousands of files with images of abused children and young people, but also to have changed the content of the material. The facts were enriched with a facet on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a temple in Lower Austria provides bizarre insights into the psyche of the former castle actor.
In the Lower Austrian municipality of Langenlois, Florian Teichtmeister shares a property with his brother and mother. Quite far from the popular wine route, the reason is hardly visible to hikers and tourists, but whoever finds it may be surprised. A “temple of general philanthropy” has graced the area — for about a year, according to building authorities.
Labels raise questions
The authorities were not allowed to tell krone.tv whether the Teichtmeister family had a building permit for this. However, on closer inspection, the “temple” – and especially the inscriptions – raises very different questions. In addition to a skull, theater masks and sculptures, the engravings in particular catch the eye: “Memento mori” – in English – remember, you must die. And: “Know thyself, master thyself, and ennoble thyself.”
What normally sounds like a banal advertising slogan wakes up in the case of the famous pedophile actor bad feelings and raises questions. Has Florian Teichtmeister recognized his proclivity for children, but failed to control himself?
“Core Masonic Values”
What is it supposed to represent, the “temple of general philanthropy in the vineyard, the wife and the two sons,” as it reads? krone.tv submitted the leaked images of the temple to an art historian. “In the middle of the temple we have two different heads. One is very much like the philosopher Socrates. The saying ‘Know thyself’ is attributed to him, although this is disputed.” The second headline could be the Roman emperor and philosopher Marc Aurel, who in a transcript quoted the Stoic Claudius Maximus as “control thyself.” The combination of the three inscriptions, namely “know thyself, master thyself and ennoble thyself”, is found only among the Freemasons.
The art historian explains that the words “wisdom, strength and beauty” – as inscribed on the temple – are the three pillars and ideals that should guide the work of the Freemasons. “In the world of Freemasonry, philanthropy is the basis of everything.” The temple as a symbol is also strongly anchored in Freemasonry. Not only as a building, but also in a figurative sense as a spiritual building.
Teichtmeister a Freemason?
Freemasonry today is almost universal, but divided into different systems and groups. In Austria there are currently 78 lodges with about 3500 members. Big names can be found in the list of former and active Freemasons. In the US, one in three of the 46 US presidents has been a Freemason. But many high-ranking politicians in Austria are and were there. For example, Helmut Zilk belonged to the Viennese lodge “Libertas”, the Burgenland lodge was founded by the former SPÖ Chancellor Fred Sinowatz. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen was active for about a year and passive for ten years with the Freemasons. Artists such as Mozart or Josef Haydn can also be found in the list. It is not publicly known whether Teichtmeister wants to join Freemasonry with this temple and whether he also belongs to this group. krone.tv is currently awaiting a response from the Grand Lodge.
One can argue about how much the philanthropic temple is worth – given the facts that Teichtmeister is accused of. It would at least have its effect as a memorial.
