About ten months after the explosion of the two Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea, investigations are still progressing slowly. The German, Danish and Swedish researchers have now written a preliminary report and submitted it to the UN Security Council. Among other things, there is talk of traces of explosives on a suspicious sailing yacht.
Traces of underwater explosives were found in samples from a yacht, the investigation said. It is suspected that the boat in question was used to transport the explosives.
“Identity of shipper disguised”
Experts say it is possible that trained divers attached the explosives to the gas pipes. The twintubes are laid on the seabed at a depth of about 70 to 80 metres. “The suspicious chartering of a sailing yacht” is also under investigation, as “the identity of the actual charterer was concealed” in the charter. The exact course of the boat is also the subject of investigation.
It is unclear whether it concerns the sailing yacht “Andromeda”, which has been reported for months, especially in the German media, in connection with the sabotage of the natural gas pipelines. The progress report is also very vaguely worded in other respects, so that it is not yet possible to say how long the investigations will take to have hard evidence and a trace to the authors.
