Identity revealed – BBC scandal: The accused is a star presenter

Date:

The BBC staffer involved in an alleged sexual misconduct scandal has been identified as veteran star presenter Huw Edwards by his wife. The newsreader has already been released by the media company. However, the police have discontinued the investigation.

“I make this statement on behalf of my husband, Huw Edwards, after five extremely difficult days for our family,” Vicky Flind said on Wednesday. Her husband suffers from “serious mental health problems” and is now being “treated inpatient at the hospital, where he will remain for the foreseeable future”.

For its part, the London police said on Wednesday evening that there was no evidence that a criminal offense had been committed in the case. Therefore, the police will not pursue the case. Flind announced that as soon as her husband was able to do so, he would comment on the reports.

BBC releases Edwards
The Sun quoted a woman on Friday as saying an anonymous BBC presenter paid her then 17-year-old child tens of thousands of pounds over three years for pornographic photos. On Sunday, the BBC announced that it had released the employee. Allegations of misconduct have been made again in recent days.

Huw Edwards’ name was already circulating massively online prior to his wife’s statement. The 61-year-old moderates Britain’s 10pm news – it was also he who broke the news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death to the world last October.

Large internal pressure
Before the Welshman was identified by his wife, some of his colleagues also commented on the case. BBC star Jeremy Vine urged a TV show host to reveal his identity to avoid further reputational damage. A former BBC employee described the presenter in a podcast as “extremely angry” at media reports of the affair.
