The residents of Wieselsdorf (Styria) were unlucky on Wednesday: after a lightning strike on the power line that ran next to a building, a distribution box in the house caught fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured.
On Wednesday morning a thunderstorm passed over Wieselsdorf. Suddenly lightning exploded in a power pole and the local residents were awakened by a loud bang. Smoke was immediately heard from the garage of a building and sirens blared at around 6:30 am in Wieselsdorf, Mettersdorf and Preding.
Stork survives lightning strike
The Florianis were quickly on site and had the fire under control with a professional extinguishing attack. The Red Cross was also deployed with two men who took care of the affected family and in particular an elderly lady. “Even the stork, which had its nest on the power pole hit by lightning, survived and began repairing and cleaning up while the emergency services left,” said a delighted George Tepperneggof the Preding Volunteer Fire Department
