On Tuesday evening, a shot wolf was found by walkers in the Danube near Tulln. The animal has been seized by the police and is currently being investigated. The criminal investigation department of Lower Austria is conducting an investigation.
A leisurely stroll on a sultry summer evening ended with a gruesome discovery for passers-by on the north bank of the Danube. There was a dead animal floating in the water – apparently a wolf. They immediately raised the alarm and called the police. Several patrols immediately drove to the site on the B19 near Tulln to recover and secure the animal.
Carcass showed a gunshot wound
Officers immediately noticed a gunshot wound with an entrance and exit. “The carcass was discovered around 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday night. According to the visual impression, it really should be a wolf,” confirms Johann Baumschlager, spokesman for the Lower Austrian State Police.
Animal has been dissected in Vienna since Wednesday
As the ORF also reported, the animal was probably shot and then dumped in the Danube. The criminal investigation department of Lower Austria has taken over the investigation. “An official veterinarian has been appointed as an expert to examine the animal,” says Leopold Bien of the St. Pölten public prosecutor’s office in response to a request from “Krone”. The wolf was dissected on Wednesday afternoon at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna. If the initial suspicion is well-founded, the perpetrator risks a prison sentence of up to two years for deliberately causing harm to the animal or plant population.
