From July 1users of the Bilbao metro have had to pay up to 100 % occasional tickets, travel paid for with the Barik and temporary passes purchased in the first 12 days of the month.
The highest body of the CTB decided at the end of May to extend the 50% rate reduction that had been in effect since June 2022 until the end of the year. bureaucratic process which must be followed in these cases (a period of 30 working days for public exposure is required), approved the discount only today, when the General Council of the entity in which the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia have learned.
This measure drew criticism, including from EH Bildu, who accused the General Council of CTB of a “serious planning error” that caused the date discrepancy.
The suspension of the discount has since only affected Metro Bilbao Bilbobus, Bizkaibus, Euskotren (train, tram and funicular) and Renfe have not undergone any changes with the price.
