President Emmanuel Macron’s staff made a gruesome discovery in France’s Elysée presidential palace. An amputated fingertip was found in a mail item. The sender was quickly found…
While checking the mail to the president, the Elysée employees came across the questionable mail. Like most heads of state, their mail is pre-opened or checked for explosives and the like.
Finger belonged to the sender
Justice then started an investigation into the threat of a crime, the prosecutor said in Paris on Thursday. It was soon determined that the finger belonged to the sender of the macabre broadcast. The man was registered because he had been struggling with psychological problems for a long time, reports Le Parisien. The suspect has been admitted to a psychiatric institution.
No information on motive
The Elysée Palace initially declined to comment. Nor would they comment on the man’s motive, or whether a letter from the fingertip was included. The fingers can no longer be sewn on, according to the police. It has been seized as evidence and is “in a freezer”.
French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte receive hundreds of letters every day, which are answered by a separate section of the Elysées. Only a very small selection actually reaches the head of state.
