The disappearance of a two-year-old boy has kept the police in France busy for almost a week. In addition to a violent crime, the researchers do not rule out an attack by a wild animal. An attack by a bird of prey is conceivable, broadcaster BFMTV reports Friday, referring to the Public Prosecution Service.
Two-and-a-half-year-old Émile disappeared last Saturday evening in the 125-inhabitant town of Le Vernet. Despite an intensive search, no trace of the boy was found. In the remote mountain village, residents had also speculated about a wolf attack. However, it is extremely rare for wolves to attack humans. A final search by about 50 police officers and volunteers in the vicinity of the site (see tweet below) ended Thursday evening without results.
Mayor François Balique has banned strangers from entering the site until Monday evening to protect the boy’s family and residents. Disaster tourism must also be prevented. As the mayor of the newspaper “Le Figaro” said, most likely, he could imagine a traffic accident, after which the driver, in a panic, invited the toddler.
Mayor rules out crime by family member
The boy was vacationing with his grandparents in town when they lost track of him Saturday night. A number of other family members were staying with the grandparents at the time. He rules out the possibility that the family had anything to do with the disappearance, the mayor told Figaro.
