The Westbahn could soon go as far as Vorarlberg: The private railway company wants to set up Bregenz as an additional station from December next year. More concrete plans are not yet known. Only last December did the Westbahn extend its offer to Innsbruck.
With the timetable change on December 10, 2023, the operator also wants to serve the Vienna-Innsbruck-Bregenz route. The “Vorarlberger Nachrichten” reported this on Saturday. Westbahn director Thomas Posch visited Vorarlberg mobility councilor Daniel Zadra (Greens) on Thursday, but no concrete plans were announced afterwards.
Number of connections can be expanded
If accepted by the customer, the number of connections per day and direction can be expanded to two from 2025 and later to four. Zadra told ORF Vorarlberg it was still unclear whether Westbahn trains would be heading to Vorarlberg in December. Negotiations would have to take place first.
The route was only extended last December
The Westbahn started in December 2011 on the Vienna-Salzburg route. Since April last year, the Westbahn also runs to Munich and since December to Innsbruck. Four trains per day and direction have been running on the Vienna-Innsbruck route since June.
