Employees of the provincial capital St. Pölten give their residents restless nights. At 3 o’clock (!) we are busy mowing. For security reasons, as emphasized in the town hall.
A resident of Rennbahnstrasse in the center of St. Pölten could not believe his ears. During the week, in the middle of the night, he was awakened by a loud noise. When he looked through the window, which was already open because of the heat, he couldn’t believe his eyes either. At 03:00 – presumably on behalf of the municipality – a man with a brushcutter was in action to clear the greenery on the side of the road.
“The city noise protection ordinance, which, among other things, prohibits lawn mowing from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., probably only applies to citizens, but not to the city itself,” says the St. Pöltner, who was not the only one excited by the work.
“Safer for employees”
The city confirmed on request that it was one of its employees. The reason: for safety reasons, weeds had to be controlled in busy streets at such times. “As a result, no passing vehicles are damaged by flying parts and the workers are much safer than in times of heavy traffic,” says the town hall.
