In the middle of the Drachenwand in the Salzkammergut Mountains, a 25-year-old Czech woman briefly lost consciousness on Friday. The dehydrated hiker had to be rescued by helicopter. It was her first time on a via ferrata – with an inappropriate choice of shoes.
The holidaymaker from the Czech Republic and her travel companion (29) wanted to climb the Drachenwand on Friday. The two started in St. Lorenz around nine o’clock and climbed the via ferrata shortly after. For footwear, the 25-year-old hiker wore gym shoes.
Dehydrated while climbing
The heat probably led to the accident: Shortly before the so-called traverse of the gods, the alpinist complained of physical discomfort and even lost consciousness for a short time. Her companion nursed the dehydrated woman, subsequent climbers called the emergency call.
The emergency doctor helicopter “Martin 3” was finally able to rescue the walker with a rope and fly to the hospital.
