A disco in Feldbach, Styria, invites you to the “Bumsbar” this Saturday – and girls in hot outfits get free high-proof drinks and condoms are also handed out. “Misphobic and inhumane,” was the harsh criticism.
It would be shortsighted to attribute it solely to the heat, which apparently clouded the organisers’ senses. Rather, it is a deliberate provocation, even the desire for a scandal, that gave the operators of a Feldbach discotheque the idea of inviting young people to a “Bumsbar” next weekend. The word has two meanings and can also be used as an adjective – just as German vacationers in Majorca are currently shouting: “Today we’re fuckable again, horny girls, horny boys here!”
Red or green bands on the wrists should therefore indicate how the Southeastern Styrian teens tick. “Just in case”, everyone at the entrance will receive a free condom as a precaution, the organizers promise. And as a bonus: when girls in hot pants, bare stomach or miniskirts go to the “1. Party zum Mallehit” come, there are high-proof. Of course also free of charge.
‘Misphobic, harmful to young people’
“Inhumane, misogynist and harmful to young people,” said Elisabeth Grossmann, SPÖ’s women’s president. And not only them, “many people from Feldbach have indignantly pointed this advertisement to me”. Grossmann then informed the anti-discrimination service, the municipality and the authorities: “Because it is about compliance with the law, decency and human dignity.”
