A rider had a dangerous encounter with a brown bear in Tyrol on Thursday. The animal stood up and hissed wildly, said Adi Moser, deputy deputy head of the Breitenbach community, where the sighting had taken place. You can read here how you should actually behave in such an encounter – and what you should never do.
Incidents involving the large carnivores have been on the rise recently. Most recently, as reported, a bear sighting took place in the Tyrolean municipality of Breitenbach am Inn (Kufstein district). The rider discovered the animal near a forest path, according to the website of the municipality of Breitenbach.
“As a rule, bears only attack to defend themselves because they are surprised or provoked,” the state of Tyrol said in a broadcast shortly afterwards. Bear attacks are very rare and most attacks are just mock attacks. But what should or shouldn’t you do if you find yourself in such a situation?
