With tears in their eyes and shaking their heads, friends and relatives visited the scene of the accident on Pichelwangergasse in Floridsdorf on Sunday morning. Flowers were also left at the place where the woman died. It came as a shock to her friends when she fell trying to get onto an adjacent balcony – but so did a neighbor…
The shock is still written on the young man’s face many hours after his traumatic experience. Anas will probably not soon forget what he experienced. He was still awake around 1:30 am on Sunday night, he says to the “Krone”. Until he was startled by a noise. “I heard a thud,” he says. He immediately ran to the window to see what had happened in front of his house.
Played hide and seek with friends
Outside he saw a woman lying on the sidewalk who didn’t move. The rescue service on the phone instructed neighbors to check if the woman was still alive. So he was out, Anas said, but he couldn’t help the 20-year-old anymore. “The woman had previously played hide and seek with her friends,” said police spokeswoman Barbara Gass. In the game, she apparently tried to climb over the dividing wall between two balconies on the fifth floor. Then she fell down. Although the professional rescue service arrived after a few minutes, all help came too late.
“It’s depressing and I’m sad,” Anas concludes. He had to deal with the shock first. The death drama probably left the majority of the remaining residents of the multi-party building without a trace. She slept soundly, says a neighbor who was deeply saddened when she heard about the accident.

The victim’s friends – also a 20-year-old and two young men – were taken care of on the spot by the crisis intervention team. The victim had fallen no less than 15 meters. The Viennese Criminal Investigation Department, North Department, is conducting the investigation.
