Fatima Mehić from the village of Lisičići in Bosnia is the proud owner of the first banana bush to bear fruit in this area – and the whole village is happy with her.
Ten years ago, her daughter Fatima Mehić, who has since passed away, brought a seedling with her. The retiree has cared for the plant for years. She kept getting to the point where she wanted to get rid of the tree, but it paid off to persevere.
“Bosnian persistence and stubbornness”
“This banana is a true reflection of Bosnian perseverance and stubbornness, because after ten years of suffering, the plant survived and bore its first fruits,” says Mehić.
Green fingers for exotics
The Bosnian woman has green fingers, because other exotic plants grow in her garden. Hikers regularly stop in front of the gate and admire the various flowers.
