MG, fire, bazooka – How dog robots become deadly weapons

Date:

Machine guns, bazookas, flamethrowers: while manufacturers of four-legged robots often claimed in the past that they were developing tools and not weapon systems, today the pacifism in this segment of robotics seems to have disappeared to some extent. More and more militaries and robotics companies are experimenting with four-legged weapon systems with significant destructive power.

Partly still hidden: the four-legged flamethrower robot in the video above, which the manufacturer has named ‘Thermonator’, is officially being marketed as an aid to the fire brigade. It is intended to assist forest fires and burned areas in a controlled manner, creating pathways that the fire cannot overcome. A flamethrower robot would also be a weapon system that could unleash great destructive power in bunkers and trenches. And while manufacturers still advertise them as tools, such robots have long been tested as weapons systems.
