With his aggressive barking and biting, the male “Rafi” became a ticking time bomb for his owner. The dog was registered and, for fear of further escalation, a desperate search was made for another place. The animal corner “Krone” took the animal under their care and now has an expert oversee the matter.
During the lockdown period, Ute H. of Vienna-Favoriten adopted the then three-year-old mixed-breed male who had been caught on the street in Romania and brought to Austria by animal rights activists. Completely naive, admits the single mother of two daughters. There was a lack of experience, time and money to give the young dog the right education.
Without the much-needed attention that dogs from animal shelters always need, the mix developed into an unpredictable problem dog. It happened as it should: he injured people, there were complaints and Mrs. H. had to get the Viennese dog handler license from “Rafi”.
Walkies only at midnight
Ute H. realized that she would not be able to meet this official requirement. Fearing contact with other dogs and people, she and “Rafi” did not walk around the residential complex until late at night. In desperation, the Viennese sought help in the animal corner “Krone”.
Rescue for “Rafi”
Maggie Entenfellner recognized the urgency of the matter and without hesitation placed “Rafi” in Schandl animal shelter in Burgenland. But even there the dog was demanding. Only after weeks did he gain confidence in his handler and let her into the kennel. The chance of being able to give this dog to someone else was zero.
The specialist will help
Keeping an animal in solitary confinement as a criminal for life is unthinkable for the “animal corner”. Styrian “Krone” colleague and animal lover Christa Blümel gave the crucial tip. “Extreme dog trainer” Georg Resch was asked to watch the male. His expertise was clear: “Rafi” needs “resocialization” – or behavioral therapy – that will help get rid of the dog’s problems and fears.
Ab in „Paw“-Camp
The protege of the animal corner “Krone” will now spend the next few weeks with the Styrian in Hartberg and his pack of 15 dogs. Because “Rafi” can now behave correctly from the other dogs and is also “animal” corrected within the group. Behavior in public places and with strange dogs should also be practiced from scratch.
determine the course
Dog trainer Resch is positive about the future: “He is a classic case for me. I am confident that I can get ‘Rafi’ back on track soon. I see him as the family dog he is by nature. in the way of finding a new owner for this very smart dog soon. Interested parties can contact me and of course I will give them all the tips to continue living together.”
The animal corner will continue to report on this case and the training progress of “Rafi”.
