Fear of drought – record: 52.2 degrees Celsius in northwest China!

Date:

A new heat record was measured in China on Sunday. In the remote community of Sanbao in the northwest of the country, the temperature rose to 52.2 degrees Celsius, state media reported Monday.

The previous high was measured in 2015 at 50.3 degrees in the People’s Republic. The development has fueled concerns that last year’s drought could repeat. Last year, China was hit by its worst drought in 60 years.

Record minus degrees in January in the north
It was not until January of this year that the lowest temperature ever recorded in China was reached in Mohe, namely minus 53 degrees. In the northernmost city of the People’s Republic on the border with Russia, the record of minus 52.3 degrees from 1969 was broken.

Cooperation with the US against global warming
Despite serious political differences, China and the US want to work together to combat global warming. US special envoy for climate change John Kerry will hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Xie Zhenhua on Monday.

Before negotiations began, Kerry said it was essential to make progress in the four months leading up to the next global climate summit in Dubai. He called on China to reduce methane emissions and reduce the climate impact of coal-fired power generation.

Several heat records have been broken in Asia
Heat records have been broken in several countries in Asia since April. Climate experts warn that the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius will not be achieved.
