According to Ukraine, it has gained ground in the east and south. Ukrainian troops advanced seven square kilometers near the city of Bakhmut. In total, Ukraine has recaptured 31 square kilometers since the start of the counteroffensive, writes State Secretary of Defense Hanna Maljar on Telegram.
In the south, Ukrainian soldiers would advance on the cities of Berdyansk and Melitopol, it said. The recapture was successful “due to the improved positioning and orientation of the front line”. Regarding current developments on the battlefield, Maljar added that Russian forces have been “actively advancing” in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv since late last week.
The soldiers at the front are sure of victory. “We are here to support the advancing infantry. We support them with artillery fire. We start with artillery fire and then the infantry advance,” says a confident Ukrainian soldier (see video above).
“Bachmut will be ours again”
“We are determined to win. We support the combined forces by carrying out the shelling. Bachmut will be 100 percent ours. It is just a matter of time,” said artillery commander Bulat.
Kiev launched a major offensive in June
In June, Ukraine launched the counter-offensive it had been waiting for months, using weapons from Western allies. Recently, however, Kiev had admitted that it was difficult to advance against the Russian units entrenched in the fortifications.
According to British military experts, Russian troops in Ukraine suffer from a lack of ability to locate Ukrainian artillery. That’s according to the daily intelligence report on the war in Ukraine from the Ministry of Defense in London on Monday.
Russians have no anti-artillery radar
Accordingly, “only a handful” of Russia’s ZOOPARK-1M anti-artillery radar units are operational in Ukraine. “The ability of Russian ground forces to survive depends on locating and engaging Ukrainian artillery, often with their own artillery,” the British statement said.
The fact that Russian general Ivan Popov, who has since been dismissed, singled out the lack of anti-artillery capabilities as one of his main criticisms underlined its central importance in the war.
The British Ministry of Defense publishes daily information on the course of the war since the start of the Russian offensive war in Ukraine in February 2022. Moscow accuses London of disinformation.
