Fuel prices are rising again in the middle of the holiday season in Slovenia. The new prices, set by the government every two weeks, will remain in effect until July 31, Slovenia’s energy ministry announced.
At filling stations along the highway, a liter of regular petrol is 1.2 cents more expensive at 1,456 euros per litre. The diesel price rises by 2.3 cents to 1,504 euros per litre.
Calculated according to a new method
For a year now, the regulated fuel prices in the neighboring country have been calculated according to a method based on the development of the price of petroleum products on the world market and the development of the exchange rate of the US dollar against the euro. Price regulation in Slovenia only applies to petrol stations outside the motorway network; the operators set the prices at gas stations along the highway.
In May, the Slovenian oil company Petrol even sued the Slovenian state for regulating fuel prices. The largest fuel dealer and operator of filling stations in Austria’s neighboring country is claiming damages of 106.9 million euros. The lawsuit relates to state price regulation in the spring of 2022.
