Heavy storms once again passed over Carinthia on Monday evening. The area around the Grote Völkermarkt was hit by a supercell on Monday evening. There have been power outages, flash floods, trees have fallen and roofs torn off.
A supercell above the Völkermarkt district caused enormous destruction: strong gusts of wind uprooted trees. The church in St. Marxen was badly damaged, the roof of the tower was even torn off. The fire brigade in St. Margarethen ob Töllerberg was confronted with a flash flood. The after church day of the fire brigade was supposed to take place here on Monday, but instead the party tent was flooded. “The water washed away our entire tent. Fortunately there were no injuries. It was the first time since 1974 that we had to cancel our festival,” reports Herbert Jaming of the fire brigade of St. Margarethen ob Töllerberg.
There were power outages in the areas of St. Kanzian and Eberndorf and numerous roofs were ripped off in the town of Völkermarkt. Disaster relief has been stepped up. Help from other districts was requested.
