They meet a group of nine young boys, between the ages of 12 and 14. There is no trace of the fireworks, the patrol drives again. Half an hour later the spectacle is repeated.
According to residents and the police, what happened on Friday evening is just one of dozens of examples of how a youth group is keeping the Reininghaus district in Graz busy. On Sunday, KFG City Councilor Alexis Pascuttini posted a video of three young people jumping on the back of a bim.
There are also reports of dirty public toilets, bullying and stones being thrown on balconies. “Usually it concerns administrative violations,” says police spokesman Fritz Grundnig.

“Want to chill in Froebelpark or Reininghaus?” For example, young people, especially boys with a migration background, meet each other via social networks. KPÖ district leader from Eggenberg, Karin Gruber, knows this. She lives right next to the Reininghauspark. “We have already taken measures together with the police, street workers and the security guard, since then things have calmed down.”
Gastro and shops are missing
The young people do not cause her any problems personally, she says. “The place here is probably interesting to them because everything is new.” The social correction is missing, more adults are present – hopefully that will change once “Lenz am Lend” takes over the kiosk in the square.
On the other hand, KFG man Pascuttini wants a political solution. “It’s not just about punishment, it’s about getting to the root of the problem.” Many families where the young people come from have problems. That’s where you should start.
