The alarm sounded almost continuously: Whether it was burning cars or a piece of forest going up in flames – it was a weekend full of firefighting in parts of Lower Austria…
A series of forest fires kept the Florianis in suspense this weekend in parts of Lower Austria: about 60 comrades were on duty for six hours at a forest fire in the Waldviertel. A fire along the bank of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn in the district of Gmünd had spread to a forest of 500 square meters through the wind and drought. During the extinguishing work, train traffic between Pürbach and Gmünd had to be stopped.
Vehicle fires in series
A family with small children traveling with their minibus on the A2 near Wiener Neudorf had a breakdown when suddenly flames erupted from the vehicle. They managed to escape in time from the van parked on the hard shoulder. All were unharmed.
The fire brigade in The Hague was also alerted to a car fire on the A1. A car crashed into the concrete barrier, overturned and caught fire. Here too, the slightly injured driver managed to free himself from the vehicle in time. In Ebreichsdorf, the engine of a car caught fire near the train station. Comrades happened to be there and extinguished the fire. Driver and dog were able to save themselves. The occupants of a hybrid car on the S5 near Krems were also able to escape to the side of the road unharmed. Since it was not possible to rule out a re-ignition of the damaged drive battery, the affected part of the vehicle was covered with dry sand.
