Five people died in a minor plane crash in Poland on Monday evening. Eight others were injured in the tragic incident, two of them seriously, a fire service spokeswoman for Poland’s PAP news agency said.
The single-engine Cessna 208 crashed into a hangar on approach to Chrcynno sports airport north of the capital Warsaw. Shortly before, a group of people had sought shelter here from an approaching storm. Four of them died.
Pilot dies on impact
One of the pilots was also killed. “It’s a well-known fact that anyone who knows a storm is coming goes to a place of safety,” the spokeswoman added. “Unfortunately, this hangar turned out not to be one.”
According to Polish media reports, the plane was mainly used for parachute jumps. There were three crew members on board at the time of the accident, the spokeswoman for the fire service said.
So passengers were not in the machine. The fire service believes that the unfavorable weather conditions were the cause of the tragic accident.
