Police were called to an unusual operation in St. Ruprecht an der Raab in Eastern Styria: a baby cat had crawled into the hood of a car. The rescue proved more difficult than expected.
Around midnight, the emergency call came in at the police station in St. Ruprecht an der Raab. Three boys heard the pathetic whining of a cat on a business park in the Albersdorf district, whereupon they asked the police for help.
The police officer on duty, Hakan Kahraman, did not hesitate for long, but the animal rescue would be anything but easy: “The cat, who was about five weeks old, had crawled into the engine compartment of a parked transport vehicle, completely frightened, and all attempts to get to it failed”.
Nice bait
One of the teen callers finally came up with the idea of going to a gas station to get dry food to attract the kitten. “We then built a road with it and after many attempts we were actually able to lure the animal out,” says Kahraman.
The animal was extremely shy and frightened, its fur smeared with oil: “As a stowaway, it has probably had a turbulent and long journey, because in the kilometers around the industrial estate there are no private houses or courtyards from which it could have escaped.” ‘, like the policeman.
Animal night guest
Since animal rescue was no longer available at the time, the officer took the cat to his office without further ado. “There she meowed all night, it took her a long time to calm down and fool around,” the 34-year-old tells the “Krone”.
Incidentally, the little foundling was very lucky: “A colleague took the baby cat with him. Much to the delight of his two daughters, who named the animal Tom,” says Kahraman, delighted with the happy ending.
