In France, the brake on the electricity price introduced in the aftermath of the energy crisis is being relaxed. According to a government decision, electricity costs for private households will be increased by ten percent in the coming month, a government spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.
Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire announced last May that the electricity price cap would be lifted at the end of next year.
Electricity prices across Europe skyrocketed last year after Russia attacked Ukraine. Reasons for this included import restrictions on gas from Russia. In France, problems at the state energy supplier EDF with nuclear power plants are also driving up prices.
