Since Monday, the Russian-occupied Black Sea peninsula of Crimea has been repeatedly attacked by drones. While part of the important Kerch bridge was destroyed on Monday, there are now reports of an attack on a Russian army training ground in the east of the peninsula.
There were several explosions. Then a fire broke out, Moscow governor Sergei Aksyonov said on his Telegram channel on Wednesday. About 2,000 residents of neighboring villages had to be brought to safety, it said. The reason for the explosions was not given. At least three Ukrainian drones are said to have attacked on social media.
Attacks on port city of Odessa
Meanwhile, the southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa, important for grain exports, is under Russian fire for the second night in a row. Russia has fired six Kalibr cruise missiles at Ukraine in the past 24 hours, Ukraine’s general staff said in its morning report on Wednesday. All Kalibr were intercepted. Ukraine’s air defense destroyed 31 of 35 Russian combat drones.
According to the military administration, the air defense systems in the capital Kyiv also repelled a new night attack from Russia. All Shahed-type kamikaze drones have been intercepted, it said Wednesday morning. Five people, including two children, were injured in an attack on a village in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk oblast. The two boys, ages 1 and 13, were playing in the courtyard of a residential building, the internet portal Ukrajinska Pravda reported Tuesday night, citing local authorities.
