In many countries around the world, the heat is currently unbearable. While new heat records have already been set in Italy, it is also getting warm in France – up to 36 degrees were expected in Marseille on Wednesday. Mayor Benoît Payan came up with an idea to make everyday life more acceptable for the people of the city.
People in Marseille can use the municipal swimming pools for free since Wednesday, Payan writes on Twitter. There should be free access until the end of the hot period – at least until Friday, according to broadcaster France Bleu.
On Thursday the weather can get almost as hot in the holiday region. The high heat warning level orange applies to the coastal town and other areas in southeastern France.
46.3 degrees Celsius reached in Sicily
However, the high temperatures in Italy, for example, have nothing to do with sweating: Austria’s neighboring country has been experiencing an extreme heat wave for days. New records have already been set in some places – in Rome the measurement was 42.2 degrees Celsius, more than two degrees above the previous record. In Sicily, even 46.3 degrees Celsius were reached.
