Dispute between soldiers – umbrella victims still not questioned

Date:

After the bloody dispute between soldiers in Upper Austria in February, many questions remain unanswered. This is mainly because the victim has still not been questioned.

More than two months ago, on February 24, one of the most unusual crimes of recent times took place in Enns. A quarrel among soldiers – all of them had just successfully completed their training as non-commissioned officers – escalated completely. A 20-year-old man from Mattighofen allegedly stabbed his “competitor”, a 33-year-old from Mistelbach (Lower Austria), in the eye with an umbrella. The tip penetrated through the eye socket and into the victim’s brain.

Found unconscious
The seriously injured man then even went back to the barracks. The next day he was found unconscious in his blood-soaked bed and immediately taken to UKH Linz, where he underwent emergency surgery and spent an extended period of time in intensive care.

Suspect in custody
The victim is no longer there, but could not yet be interrogated, according to the Steyr public prosecutor’s office. What actually happened that night cannot be fully explained.

The alleged perpetrator has now been detained, he said during the interrogation that he did not put the umbrella in but threw it.
