The dream of fast and big money ended in a huge loss for a man from Salzburg. On the advice of an internet acquaintance, the 28-year-old allegedly “invested” money in cryptocurrencies and repeatedly transferred four- and five-figure amounts to various accounts and so-called wallets.
About a month ago, the man from Salzburg met an alleged Dutch woman on a dating platform, who eventually persuaded him to invest in cryptocurrencies because you can win a lot of money quickly here.
When the 28-year-old asked when he could expect the first payment after about a month, contact was suddenly broken, according to the police. More than 100,000 euros had already flowed to the scammers.
The man has filed a report and an investigation is underway.
