A 73-year-old probably owes his life to an attentive walker. Because when she heard cries for help in Thurytal in Freistadt (Upper Austria), she notified the emergency services. A police officer eventually found the senior, who was run over by his own tractor and seriously injured.
In the Thurytal area, a hiker heard cries for help from a male person on Tuesday afternoon, but was unable to identify him in the impassable terrain. So the brave passerby picked up the phone and called 911.
A major search operation then began in the Thury Valley, some of which was only possible on foot. By chance, a police officer discovered a crashed tractor along a hiking trail – and a seriously injured person.
Run over while working in the woods
According to police, the 73-year-old from the Freistadt district was run over by his own tractor when he started it to operate the winch. The elderly man was probably standing next to the tractor when it started moving and rolled for about 40 meters after the accident until he collided with a tree.
The seriously injured 73-year-old received first aid from rescuers and an emergency doctor. The emergency medical helicopter “Christophorus 10” then took him to the hospital.
