Ban from 9 p.m. – No alcohol: Mayor makes Udine “dry”

Date:

In the Italian city of Udine, the wine glass remains empty from 9 p.m. The mayor signed an ordinance banning the serving of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in the evening.

Alberto Felice De Toni, mayor of Udine, ordered on Tuesday that the sale of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be banned throughout the municipality from 9 p.m. the following day. The measure also applies to vending machines, according to the municipal council.

Consumption in public places is also prohibited
It is also prohibited to serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in bars from 1am to 8am throughout the city. In the Borgo Stazione district, not far from the train station, the consumption of alcohol in public places and on the streets is prohibited all day.

The scheme comes into effect immediately and has a duration of 30 days, which can be extended by a further 30 days. If the measure is not respected, bar owners risk fines of between 200 and 1,200 euros, as well as the immediate cessation of activities and the confiscation of alcoholic drinks.

Violent acts during the night hours
The measure was taken by the mayor after violence occurred during the night. Some people were also injured. “Unfortunately, recent incidents have shown us that we must do more to ensure public safety. The city and its citizens demand that we take decisive and decisive action to prevent such incidents from happening again,” the mayor said.
