A lottery player from California has hit the Powerball jackpot and won $1 billion (about 890 million euros). It was Powerball’s biggest jackpot since November and, according to the Washington Post, it’s only the third time it has crossed a billion.
The California State Lottery said Wednesday that the lucky winner bought his ticket at a Los Angeles convenience store and became the only player in the country to have all six numbers.
The lucky person now has the choice of receiving the entire amount spread over a period of 30 years or paying it in one go. Of course, he also has to pay tax on the profit.
Winning numbers 7, 10, 11, 13 and 24
Powerball lottery tickets are sold in 45 US states, the Capital District of Washington, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The contestants choose six numbers – five white and one red ball. Wednesday’s lucky winner secured the jackpot with winning numbers 7, 10, 11, 13 and 24 for the white balls and 24 for the red ball.
