In the Italian municipality of Malcesine, a diver recently fished a message in a bottle from Lake Garda. The German couple, who wrote the text eleven years ago, heard about the find on the radio and then contacted the municipality. This invited Sabrina and Dennis for a vacation.
“Malcesine is excited about this beautiful story and our entire community is waiting to welcome Sabrina and Dennis,” said tourism board member Sara Pallua. The search for the authors of the message in a bottle was very exciting. The handwritten mail that a diver fished from Lake Garda had occupied many residents in recent days.
“Dear Lake Garda, with this message in a bottle we wish our families, our friends and ourselves that we always stay happy and healthy. Dear Lake Garda, stay as beautiful and bright as you are today,” the German letter read. message in a bottle was sunk by a couple from Hamburg in August 2012. Sabrina and Dennis Schwalbe got married in 2011 and already spent their honeymoon in Malcesine.
Three more visits followed, with one of them landing the message in a bottle in the lake. The idea came “one night after a romantic lakeside dinner,” says Sabrina Schwalbe. She and her husband live in a suburb of Hamburg and now have a two-year-old son.
Message reached her while she was on vacation
The news that the media from Germany, Austria and Italy were looking for them also reached the 37-year-old and the 40-year-old on vacation – in the Austrian mountains. “My mother sent me the link. After the title I didn’t have to read any further. I just knew it was our message in a bottle,” said the woman. A day later, they heard the news themselves that their message had been found in a bottle.
Sabrina and Dennis Schwalbe then wrote an email to the municipality of Malcesine, which initiated the search. They were promptly invited to a holiday they plan to take around Valentine’s Day next year.
