Since she can’t go to kindergarten due to a serious immune disease, six-year-old Hannah is replaced by a mini robot. In this way, the little Carinthian has to virtually participate in activities and keep in touch with her friends.
As the City of St. Veit announced Friday, the mini-robot will be used at St. Donat Kindergarten. It is about 30 centimeters high and weighs 1.5 kilograms. Hannah can control the robot: with a flashing light signal she can say something in the kindergarten, turn her avatar’s head with her tablet to keep an eye on what’s happening in the group.
“We play with Hannah about the avatar, do crafts, eat something and even take her out into the garden,” says Sylvia Greiler, head of the kindergarten. Funded by donations, the avatar is intended to help Hannah socialize despite her serious illness. These are greatly reduced and transferring knowledge is also difficult, says Hannah’s mother. She hopes that things will improve with the mini robot.
