Two floating islands are currently causing a stir on the Indonesian island of Borneo. The islets reportedly float over Bagut Lake in West Kalimantan province every day, returning to their starting position in the afternoon.
According to reports, the small “Bengasar” islands only change position between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. According to local residents, there used to be seven floating islands on the lake.
Several tourists have already visited the islands covered with grass, shrubs and trees. Videos published online show the visitors on the overgrown landmasses.
There is still no exact scientific explanation for the phenomenon. Currents and wind can displace the floating structure of dense roots.
