In the Tyrolean town of Ellmau (district of Kufstein), a 24-year-old Austrian was arrested on Thursday who is suspected of storing cannabis in his room. The police were only alerted to a distinct odor by chance, as they were actually called for a different reason.
A woman had called the police for help from a public phone booth. However, when officers arrived on scene, no one was there. Receiving information that the caller may have lived in an adjoining house, the police went in – and immediately noticed a strong odor of weed. Finally, a 24-year-old Austrian came out of his room and blocked the way for the police officers.
Arrest followed aggression
Even after the public prosecutor had given permission for a house search, the young man wanted to deny the officers access. They eventually pulled him away from the door, whereupon the man pushed one of the officers. He was then temporarily arrested.
During the subsequent search of the house with the help of a service dog, the detectives finally found what they were looking for on the balcony. There they found more than 140 grams of cannabis resin, more than 280 grams of dried cannabis herbs and more than 90 grams of dried cannabis plant remains hidden in a backpack. They also found brass knuckles and a stun gun. The 24-year-old suspect is reported to the Public Prosecution Service.
Original mission can be aborted
During their operation, the officers were also able to meet the woman who initially called the police. In her case, police action was no longer necessary.
