Two cats died in a large fire in an apartment in Vienna-Floridsdorf on Friday evening. Four people and two dogs were rescued in time from the residential building on Hayekgasse by emergency services.
When the fire brigade with 27 emergency services and six emergency vehicles left the house around 00:25 after an alarm from a victim, the apartment on the second floor of the three-storey house was already completely on fire. The fire threatened to spread to the floor above. The flames were fought with two fire lines with breathing apparatus inside and outside to prevent them from spreading to other floors.
Four people and two dogs rescued
The affected apartment owner and several other neighbors managed to get to safety. Two residents had to be rescued using the revolving ladder. Two other people were brought out with their two dogs wearing escape filter masks. Two victims required emergency medical care and were taken to hospital. The operation ended around 03:00.
All help came too late for two cats. They died in the flames. It is not yet clear how the fire started. The investigation is still ongoing.
