Date:

They will hold an informal meeting in the Euskalduna, spread over three sessions, on Monday and Tuesday 24 and 25 July, and will debate, although no decision will be made, the Consumer Agenda 2020-2025 and the development and autonomy of European industry.

The ministers of Consumption and Industry of the countries of the European Union will discuss in the informal meeting to be held in the Euskalduna Bilbao Monday and Tuesday, July 24 and 25on the AConsumer agenda 2020-2025 and the development and autonomy of European industry.

The dependence of European industry on the outside, especially China, became apparent with the coronavirus pandemic and later with the supply crisis, especially chips, and that of international logistics due to problems in Chinese ports, in addition to the blockade of the Suez Canal by a cargo ship.

All this caused numerous problems for European industry, which had to paralyze production in many factories, especially in the automotive sector, which also faces a transition to electrification that requires batteries and new raw materials that are not currently produced in Europe.

The Industry Ministers of the 27 will discuss all this at the “l Ministerial Meeting on Consumption and Industry and the Internal Market”.

The meeting, in which no decision will be taken, counts in principle with the participation of the 27 Ministers of Consumption and Industry, including the Spanish Minister of the Industry, Alberto Garzón, and the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and the European Union, José Manuel Albares, as host. The European Commission is represented at this meeting on Consumption and Industry by the Belgian Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders.
