On the Rosentalweg – injured mountaineer (60) persevered in emergency bivouac

Date:

An injured 60-year-old hiker spent Saturday night in a bivouac after sliding across a snowfield. He was on the Rosentalweg in the Berchtesgadener Land (Germany).

The German left Friday evening from the Wasseralm to Maria Alm with a 49-year-old. When the two wanted to cross a snowfield below the Selbhorn, the 60-year-old lost his footing and slid over the snowfield more than 100 meters down the slope. Only rocky terrain held him back. His companion called the police.

She was only able to take the 49-year-old into the valley by helicopter because the weather and visibility were poor. The police officers therefore informed twelve mountain rescuers and a mountain police officer and flew the group to the Braggstein. From there they walked to the scene of the accident and gave the man medical treatment. Since he still could not be rescued, the mountain rescuers set up an emergency bivouac on site.

It was not until Saturday morning that the weather allowed the helicopter to rescue the injured. The seriously injured 60-year-old was taken to the Tauern clinic in Zell am See. The emergency services could also be flown from the crime scene by helicopter.
