Rayo Vallecano drew with Sporting Charleroi in a friendly match where they took the lead through Álvaro García after six minutes and marked the red-and-red shirt debut of Uruguayan left-back Luis Alfonso ‘Pacha’ Espino.
Four days after defeating Panathinaikos in Athens, the Madrid team tested their form again against Sporting Charleroi, who are more experienced in defense than the Greek team.
After six minutes, Rayo took the lead through Álvaro García, but the joy was short-lived as Charleroi equalized before the break with a goal from Marco Ilaimaharitra, who scored from the penalty spot shortly after missing a clear chance that had the visitors’ defense reeling.
In the second half, a carousel of substitutions slowed the pace of the game, although Rayo managed to score in the second with a header from Iván Balliu that went near the post.
