Six hectares of farmland were destroyed in a fire in Mahrersdorf, part of the municipality of Altenburg in Lower Austria, on Saturday. Firefighters spent two hours extinguishing the fire.
A combine harvester saw flames in a field during afternoon harvesting work immediately sounded the alarm.
The constantly shifting wind made it difficult for emergency services because the flames were so difficult to contain. Thanks to another tanker and extra barrels of liquid manure with water, the fire was finally under control. The fire was extinguished after two hours.
The fire service estimated the damage caused on six hectares of devastated land.
