A Flachgau family from Bürmoos went to an alternative hotel immediately after arrival because of the forest fires on Rhodes. The annoyance of not being informed by tour operator Tui about the conditions on the island is completely incomprehensible to Petra Stern and her family. A spokesman for the Salzburg FPÖ was lucky and came back on Sunday.
Not all holidaymakers on Rhodes are as lucky as Dom Kamper. The spokesman for deputy governor Marlene Svazek (FPÖ) was able to fly back to Salzburg on Sunday as planned and without any problems. But after arriving, the holidaymaker and his partner still had the pungent smell of burnt food in their noses.
“We had a hotel in Lachania, about 15 minutes south of the crisis area. On our last night on the site, it was converted into an evacuation hotel, up to 300 people camped in and around the building,” Kamper told the “Krone”. And told about children who slept on beach chairs and fathers who slept on bare concrete for lack of alternatives. We are back safely, but chaos broke out on Rhodes.”
‘Really angry not to have been informed’
Kamper praised the information service of tour operator Tui. However, another woman from Salzburg no longer understands the world: “We flew from Salzburg to Rhodes on Saturday. No one warned us about Tui. On the plane it was announced that the weather was beautiful on the island. This is madness. On Rhodes we immediately went to an alternative hotel on Rhodes – to the meeting room in the basement.” Since then, Petra Stern (33), her husband and daughter Magdalena (3) have had to share a room with another family in the hotel. “We just want to go home. But we don’t get how that works,” says the mother from Bürmoos.
The organizer tries to create clarity
When asked about the Petra Stern case, a spokeswoman for Tui said: “We are no longer bringing guests to the island. The following flights from Salzburg on Tuesday and Thursday are for returning guests only. We have set up a telephone team and are collecting all possible information. We informed the customers on Saturday that canceling the trip made the most sense.”
