A day after the fire in Berndorf (Salzburg), the detectives were able to clarify the cause: a technical defect had caused the fire in the completely burnt-out hay barn. The hay drying installation also fueled the fire.
A court expert, together with the fire brigade investigators, has clarified the cause of the fire. According to the Salzburg police report, there was a technical defect in the screw conveyor of the wood chip heater.
“Smoke in the Hall”
“In addition, the hay drying installation in the building sucked up the hot smoke from the fire and spread the smoke over the hall below the dry crop,” the report continues.
Hours of firefighting
Monday’s fire in Berndorf has been resolved. 170 firefighters, including some from surrounding communities, spent hours putting out the blaze. The hay barn, in which wood chips and straw were stored, quickly caught fire and eventually went up in flames. According to the police, the damage amount is in the middle of six figures.
A hay baler that burned down on the same farm days ago and was parked right next to the burning stable building had no connection to the current fire.
