In search of an old trail – Grandpa and his three grandchildren ran into trouble in the mountains

Date:

A trek with his three grandchildren took a dramatic turn for one grandfather: the four got lost and had to be rescued by the rescue helicopter.

A 72-year-old from the Kirchdorf district left on Tuesday around 8.30 am with his three grandchildren (7, 9 and 13 years old) for a walk towards the Prielschutzhaus. They also arrived there at 12:00. After a long break, they decided to descend via the Blosskogel and a local “Jägersteig” in the direction of a forest road.

Sdough no longer walkable
But because they had forgotten to fill the drinking bottles, they went back to the Prielschutzhaus. The 72-year-old, who hiked a nearby Jägersteig some 20 years ago, which also led to the forest road, now tried to walk it again with the children. The problem: He didn’t know that the climb had been inaccessible for years.

13-Track fatest Heli
When they couldn’t get any further on the extremely steep, trackless terrain around 3:50 p.m., they made a distress call. Six men from the Hinterstoder mountain rescue service, an alpine police officer and the crew of the police helicopter rushed to the scene. The 13-year-old girl was able to send the police helicopter to her location via her mobile phone. With a variable rope, the hikers could then be flown safely into the valley.
