There were a lot of emotions and alcohol involved: ten young people tried to ‘free’ two colleagues who had been arrested in Imst. This led to riots at the police station, which are now charged with trespassing.
The “siege” and attempted break-in at the Imst police station by ten youths caused a stir last November. The suspects – aged between 15 and 20 – apparently loudly wanted to release their friends. The public prosecutor spoke of “disrespectful behavior towards police and security” that “has never been in Tyrol before”.
Tumultuous scenes around the Krampus run
No one denied that there were tumultuous scenes during the Krampus run. After the duo’s arrest, which was unjustified from the young men’s point of view, “Free Richie” and “Free Arda” were sung together. The young men had also managed to break into the front room of the police station.
violation denied
The men questioned denied that they wanted to force their way in from there through the closed door to the offices where the officers were waiting. They just wanted to ask when their colleagues would be released, it said. But it could very well be that ‘I knocked on the window’, two men admitted in unison. However, they unanimously rejected the shaking of the door and with it the accused attempted break-in. “There is no real evidence,” the defenders insisted, only individual calls were actually taken.
Police officers: “Homogeneous group of men“
It was also clear that these events occurred when those involved were heavily intoxicated. Their own assessments ranged from “heavily drunk” to “empty a bottle of Jägermeister”.
A number of witnesses could not provide any information about the case. Police officers recognized individuals and saw the men as a “homogeneous group”. Who exactly did what remains unclear for the time being. The sequel will follow on August 22.
