The US mayor of Tampa has now made an unusual catch while fishing: Jane Castor came across more than 30 kilograms of cocaine while traveling with her family in the Florida Keys archipelago. The drugs were in a plastic package that floated in the water (see video above).
“My younger brother saw a piece of debris in the water,” Castor told the broadcaster “Fox 13.” The family then moved closer because the shadow might attract fish. “Oh, that’s probably a cocaine package,” she finally stated. The 62-year-old woman and her family managed to get the heavy package on board and informed the police.
“My family was a little concerned about whether there was a tracking device or something. I said, ‘If there is, then the batteries are already dead,'” Castor continued. Paradoxically, the Florida mayor himself spent 30 years in the Tampa Police Department, six of them as police chief.
Packages decorated with butterflies
Authorities later released a photo of the find showing 25 packages of cocaine decorated with butterflies. The black market value of the cocaine is approximately $1.1 million.
