Investigators on site – after an explosion in Lebring: the area remains closed

After the explosion at a business park in Lebring south of Graz, in which a hydrogen tank exploded on Tuesday afternoon, police detectives were still busy investigating the cause on Wednesday. Another tank was emptied overnight. The business premises remain closed.

At around 1 p.m., a hydrogen tank exploded on an industrial estate in Lebring. According to the police, a 39-year-old employee who was standing in a shed near the tank with several hundred liters of hydrogen that exploded outside at the time of the explosion was taken to the Regional Hospital in Wagna with minor injuries.

Witnesses reported a dull bang and a huge blast of pressure that would have been felt even miles away. On the company premises itself, the force of the explosion sent various parts flying through the air.

The Federal Criminal Investigation Department supports investigations
In addition to the Lebring and Lang voluntary fire brigades, police officers with knowledge of hazardous substances, the national chemical alarm service, the labor inspection and the fire brigade of the national police were also present on Tuesday. On Wednesday, experts from the Federal Criminal Investigation Service came to support the Styrian criminals in investigating the cause of the explosion.
